How long does it take to get a loan from a licensed moneylender?
Often the same working day — but the honest answer is “it depends”. The application takes minutes; the loan itself must be assessed and completed in person before any money changes hands. Here is the realistic timeline, step by step.

If you are searching for “fast cash”, it helps to know how a licensed moneylender loan actually works — because the parts that protect you (an assessment and an in-person signing) are exactly the parts an illegal lender skips. A legitimate loan can still be quick; it just cannot be instant-over-WhatsApp. Here is what to expect.
The typical timeline
- Apply — a few minutes. Submit the online form (or call). If you use Singpass Myinfo, most of your details are filled in for you.
- We call you back — within 1 hour on working days. A loan officer confirms your details and what you need, and answers your questions.
- Visit our office — by appointment, same day where possible. You come to our Lucky Plaza office with your documents. This in-person step is required by law.
- Assessment — usually while you are there. We verify your identity and income, run the mandatory Moneylenders Credit Bureau (MLCB) check, and work out how much you can borrow within the legal limits.
- Sign the contract — once you are happy. We explain every term in writing before you sign — the amount, interest, fees and repayment schedule.
- Disbursement — typically within about 30 minutes of approval and signing.
For many straightforward applications, all of this happens on the same working day.
Why it can’t be instant (and why that protects you)
Under the Moneylenders Act, a licensed loan must be granted in person at the lender’s approved place of business after proper checks. Any “lender” that approves and disburses a loan entirely by SMS or WhatsApp, with no visit, is not licensed — and that is a major red flag. The short in-person step is what makes the loan legal, transparent and safe. See how to check if a moneylender is licensed.
What speeds things up
- Use Singpass Myinfo when you apply — it pre-fills and verifies your details, so there is less to check at the office.
- Bring the right documents. Having your income and identity documents ready avoids a second trip — see documents needed for a moneylender loan.
- Apply during working hours so we can call you back and see you the same day.
- Know your numbers. Being clear on how much you need and can repay makes the assessment faster.
What can slow things down
An application may take a little longer if income needs extra verification, if the MLCB check shows existing loans that affect how much you can borrow, or if you apply outside working hours. None of this is a bad sign — it is a responsible lender doing proper checks.
